Gulf Times -- The Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs (Awqaf) has opened eight new mosques during the holy month of Ramadan in five areas in the State, in the framework of its plan to meet the ever-increasing population in the country.
The ministry said that three mosques are in Raudat Al Hamama, a mosque at the Old Airport, a mosque in Bo Sedra, two mosques in Umm Al Sinaim and a mosque in Azgawa, all of which can accommodate more than 4,200 worshippers.
The new mosques have been designed according to environmental and heritage standards and have attached accommodation for imams and muezzins, as well as prayer halls for women, and other facilities.
Awqaf opened 65 new mosques in different areas this year before Ramadan, and is preparing to open more mosques in the coming months.
