The Peninsula -- As part of Qatar-India Year of Culture 2019, world-famous artists, including AR Rahman and Ilayraja will perform in Doha.
Indian Ambassador, P Kumaran, told The Peninsula on the sidelines of an event held at the embassy to mark the 70th Republic Day of India that a series of programs will be held under Qatar-India Year of Culture.
“The formal inauguration of Qatar-India Year of Culture - 2019 is scheduled on February 4 at Opera Theater Katara by holding a cultural program with special VIP performance,” the Ambassador said.
He added that there will be musical performances of Ilayraja, A R Rahman, Dana Al Fardan and a number of other big artists.
“Katara Studio will host a musical event at Khalifa International Stadium in which AR Rahman will be performing. He will partner with Dana Al Fardan, the popular Qatari music composer and will also solo perform in March this year,” P Kumaran noted.
The Ambassador said that another separate performance from Indian community will be held on February 5 at Katara.
“The programs include dance and music performances. The first music program will be fusion music by Naveen Kumar, an Indian flutist. He is combining with Qatar philharmonic orchestra to do half Indian and half Arab music performance. There will be some Western music performances,” the Ambassador pointed out.
“Qatar National Convention Center (QNCC ) will host a cultural program on February 8 for which a circular has been issued. Tickets will be sold at QR75,” said the Ambassador.
He said that between mid-February and end of March, a series of events will be organized by the Ministry of Culture and Sports, and the government of India in traditional Indian format.
The Ambassador also added that the Embassy of India will open visa center this year in Qatar.
“Separate visa and passport submission center will be opened in Al Khor and Industrial Area,” he unveiled, adding that the embassy had plans to open online appointment system for professionals to save their time.
