PM Opens New Health Center in Al Waab
The Peninsula -- Prime Minister and Interior Minister, HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, inaugurated the Primary Health Care Corporation’s (PHCC) new health center in Al Waab last week.
The Prime Minister toured the latest health center after the opening ceremony where he was briefed on the facilities and services available at the health center.
The Prime Minister was accompanied by Minister of Public Health, HE Dr Hanan Mohamed al-Kuwari; Managing Director of PHCC, Dr Mariam Abdul Malik, and other dignitaries.
With the inauguration of the new facility, the number of PHCC health centers has increased to 26. This health center has the capacity to cater to 35,000 patients. A total of 8,000 persons from neighboring areas have already registered with the new health center since the beginning of this month.
Al Waab Health Center is located in a populated area and will provide a list of comprehensive healthcare services, which will help in reducing the burden on neighbouring facilities.
“Primary health care is about caring for people, rather than simply treating specific illnesses. PHCC as the first point of contact in Qatar’s healthcare system aims to provide a comprehensive, accessible, community-based care that meets the health needs of individuals throughout their life. This of course is in line with not only the new National Health strategy but follows the leadership of HH the Amir in driving forward Qatar National Vision 2030 to ensure that we are promoting health to sustain a prosperous society,” Dr Abdul Malik said.
“At PHCC, we aim to bring the best health services to all our patients. The opening of the Al Waab Health Center is an important step for us to be able to offer world class primary health services to families closer to their homes,” she pointed out.
Al Waab Health Center is staffed with 20 physicians in different specialties, 40 nurses, seven dentists, 10 lab technicians, eight pharmacy staff and others. The services include Women Wellness Clinic, Maternity and Postnatal clinic, Well Baby clinic, periodic immunization for children, physiotherapy, dentistry, optometry and several others.
In addition to the comprehensive services, the health center will be running a family medicine model, which has been newly introduced by the PHCC to provide a patient-centered approach.
“We look forward to welcoming new registrants to the latest PHCC health center. We aim to cater to all our patient’s needs, with a team of highly qualified and trained staff. Our unique family medicine model will enhance patient experience and their access to services,” Dr Samya Ahmad Al Abdulla, Executive Director of Operations at PHCC, said.
The new health center is part of the country’s biggest healthcare facility expansion projects. PHCC will open another health center in Qatar University soon.
